Status -

“The Beast constantly seeks to prove its supremacy. Unless a vampire unleashes her Beast from time to time, she will slowly succumb to madness as cruel urges gradually wear down her human nature. Vampire society evolved to allow subtle releases of the Beast by codifying intricate rules of protocol. A vampire instinctively spends her time monitoring and measuring her place in society, comparing her station against others. Like a wolf, she knows her rank in the pack and is keenly aware of any social ascent or decline.”

Status represents a small amount of influence and power within the Camarilla. Many status traits can be held for minor bonuses, or be expended for leverage, political gain, and other mechanical bonuses. By following the rules of station, social protocols, and working on behalf of those in power are avenues to either increasing or maintaining status. While disregarding station, protocol, or poor social behavior can result in the either the loss of status or the gaining of negative status traits.

Broadly, status falls into three positive categories (abiding, fleeting, innate) or be simply negative.


Abiding statuses usually earned by holding a position, and a character can only actively hold abiding status from one source at a time. While, for example, a character may serve as both Seneschal and Primogen, they may only have access to status traits from a single role per game session (From our example, the Seneschal couldn’t use her Seneschal status and minutes later use Primogen status, she’d have to wait for the next game to take up that mantle of power). Only so long as an character has their position may they have the position’s abiding status. Abiding statuses have strong passive effects, although these passive effects maybe surpassed for a game session in return for a powerful effect.

Example: Lodin, as Prince of Chicago, has the abiding status Sovereign, which allows him to award the fleeting statuses: Courteous, Enforcer, or Loyal without cost, and cannot be openly contradicted in public unless the person speaking against him has the Privileged or Authority status traits. Lodin may spend his Sovereign trait to enact a blood hunt or give the status Sanctioned to a target, Lodin’s Sovereign trait returns next game.


Fleeting status is the most common form of status and is often horded , as can be saved up for later use and is earned through deeds or patronage by other characters. A character without bans(as explained below) may hold a maximum of 5 fleeting status traits at any given time. As abiding statuses, many fleeting statuses have passive bonuses and can be spent for a greater bonus, although fleeting status does not return after use as in the case of abiding statuses.

Example: If Primogen Nevel has the Honorable status trait, he cannot be openly accused of lying by the honorable traits passive effect, unless the accuser wishes to expend one of their positive status traits. If Nevel wishes to expend this trait, then he may remain in a situation where he is politically forced to leave without consequence. So if the Harpy gets angry at Nevel and uses his Prominent status to force him to leave, then Nevel may expend his honorable trait to ignore that request without additional cost.

Lesser Bans
A lesser ban is a petty prejudice, one that has limited or minor effects, causing individuals suffering under this ban to be at a mild disadvantage in their society. A character under a sect’s minor status ban has her maximum possible number of fleeting status reduced to 3. Abiding status is unaffected.

  • Applies to members of the Camarilla not Embraced by one of the pillar clans. Gangrel have not yet regained their status as a pillar clan.
  • Applies to members of the Camarilla on a Path of Enlightenment
  • Applies to members of the Camarilla who do not have any boons registered with the Harpy
  • Applies to members of the Camarilla who were once members of the Sabbat, within the past 10 years
    Greater Bans
    A greater ban significantly censures an individual’s political ambitions. A character under a sect’s major ban has her maximum possible number of fleeting status traits reduced to 1. Abiding status is unaffected.

• Applies to members of the Camarilla that have committed diablerie
• Applies to members who have joined the Camarilla within the last year.


Innate status is the rarest form of status and is usually positive. Usually granted by a merit, flaw or special occasion. Some rare innate statuses can be detrimental to the character. Like abiding statuses, many have passive bonuses and expending bonuses that will spend the trait, which will return next game.


Negative status traits reflect stains on a character’s reputation, as an obvious reminder of disfavor. Negative status is always well-known to other vampires in the character’s sect. A character with negative status must wear a sticker, badge, or some other obvious sign of their sullied reputation. Any player can ask to learn the specific negative traits a character possesses. Most negative traits have censures, which are prohibitions that, if broken, will lead to a listed punishment. Note these are not magical restrictions, but social codes that elders and officers have to uphold to retain their status in the Camarilla.
